Picnic Day

Today is our Church Picnic and I am so excited. About 4 years ago we couldn't find enough volunteers so they had everyone on staff serve the people at the picnic. And of course I complained about doing it but as I was there directing traffic and serving food I felt like this is why I am here. I forget sometimes that my job here at CCC is to first serve God in everything I do but also to serve His people. Needless to say by the end of the night I was excited about helping out and even suggested we do it again.

CCC graciously let us come in today at noon so I had all morning with my Laney Bug and then I took her to the sitters. I had about an hour to go home and get ready. I started laundry and as I was getting ready I could hardly contain my excitement. I felt like a kid going to an amusement park. I was singing:

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
My, oh my what a wonderful day!
Plenty of sunshine heading my way
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay

Mister Bluebird on my shoulder
It's the truth, it's actch'll
Ev'rything is satisfactch'll
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
Wonderful feeling, wonderful day!

I know it's supposed to storm today so there probably won't be any sunshine outside. But I felt like that regardless of the circumstances we can have sunshine whenever we want. So if you are thinking of staying home tonight... I encourage you to come out and eat some free food and enjoy the sunshine!

It's funny that you posted about this today. I'm definitely having a week that I have to CHOOSE the sunshine. Plus, we were just talking with the Johnsons about the old CCC picnics and how fun they were, with all the food and the games and the getting to catch up with people who went to different services. Of course, when all our kids started coming along, the fun factor was ridiculously reduced, as the day at LA park became all about chasing the toddlers and keeping the babies from heat rash while trying to nap or nurse in the sun. But we all agreed, it's one of the things we transplants all miss the most about CCC family life! Hope ya had some fun for us ;)

I just got home from the picnic. Princess had a great time playing at the duck pond. And I'm not sure how many lollipops she got from the lollipop tree.

Thank you for working at the picnic. We always have a great time.
